HISTORY: Ye Olde Medieval Week!

Ye Olde Medieval Week!!!
October 18-22

Monday, we will do some reading and be introducing ourselves to where exactly the terms "Medieval" and "Middle Ages" came from. We will also have a short introduction to the Feudal System which we will study in more depth later this year. After this we will have a Feudal Pyramid worksheet to complete. Is a Lord or Lady higher in rank than a Knight? We'll find out!

Tuesday, we'll be studying the in's and out's of castle life. What is a "bailey" and why would you put a big pool of water called a "moat" around your home? We'll be completing a Castle Match-Up worksheet with this reading and research.

Wednesday, we will take "Knightly Vows" and discover what it really took to become a Medieval warrior. We'll find out all the levels a young man must have passed in order to become a true knight: Boy, Page, Squire, Armiger and finally a Knight. Do you think you could endure all the training a young man did in order to become a knight?

Thursday, MEDIEVAL FEAST DAY! In class, we will read about what foods would have been served, how they were served, what kind of foods weren't around, who sat where, who served who...
We already taked a little bit in class about the value of SALT, we'll be discussing these terms and what they might mean:

Salt of the Earth
Above the Salt
To Salt a Mine
Worth One's Salt
Salary

At lunch this day, we will put on all of our finery, a King or Queen will be crowned who will lead all of our CCS Knights in a luncheon prayer before our feast.

Friday, we'll discuss what life was like if you were not nobility and what a peasant or serf would have been up to. We'll be writing a diary entry about what it would feel like if you were a peasant and how you feel about your lot in life.
