History/Bible October 3-7

We have had a very full week of Viking history! This coming Monday, Oct. 3rd (one day before someone's birthday), you will all present your Viking Reports to the class. So come prepared!

Monday: Prayer Request Monday - Viking Law
History - Viking Reports and editing our "Saga" stories about Mrs. Alwine
Bible - Read II Kings 6:8-23, the write a paragraph describing the event/miracle it describe Elisha performing.


Tuesday:
History - Classtime will be devoted to Bible lesson
Bible - You will be creating a banner, 6 sheets of paper, each containing a letter that will spell out E-L-I-S-H-A!  On each letter page, you will draw a picture of one of Elisha's many miracles.

Wednesday:
History - Using our comprehensive packets, we will start review over the tribes: Visigoths, Huns, Vandals, Franks, Teutons, Celts, and Vikings.
Bible - Finish any work needed on your Elisha banners.

Thursday:
History - Using our comprehensive packets, we will start review over the tribes: Visigoths, Huns, Vandals, Franks, Teutons, Celts, and Vikings.
Bible - Review over our lesson on the Ministry and Miracles of Elisha in preparation for our test on Friday.

Friday: No Shoe Friday - Viking Law
History - You will have a packet with fill in the blank, matching and crosswords to complete to help you further your review for your Barbarian/Viking test on Monday, October 10th.

Fourth grade will be focusing on word problems, combining problems through word problems and practicing using number lines and tally marks.

History/Bible Sept. 26-30

It's Viking Week in history class 4th Graders! 

Important Reminder: Viking Reports need to be worked on outside of class this week. They are due, Monday, October 3rd!

Monday: We will be watching a powerpoint to touch on some information covering the Vikings, you will then be given the supplies to create your own Viking Longboat.

Tuesday: Will be devoted to Bible class, if there is free-time you may finish any work on your Viking ship.

Wednesday: We will be creating a "Hammer of Thor", many of you have done some research on the Norse gods and will have an idea of where this comes from. We will also be discussing how this symbol transformed into the Christian cross for those Viking people who converted to Christianity.

Thursday: We will be discussing "Futhark", also known at the Viking Runic Alphabet. After discussion, you will be asked to write a secret message in this language for your classmates to unravel. We will also discuss "Things" and be creating our own classroom "Thing" to establish classroom rules/laws.

Friday: Skalds, Saga's and Poetic Edda. Poetry was very popular among the Vikings and their favorite topic was adventure.

This week we'll work through the chapter 3 packet. Make sure you are studying the vocab and chant on your own. No quiz this week.

September 26-30: Literature/Language Arts

Monday: CCF ch. 19 advertisement assignment.

Tuesday: Question & Answer flow for nouns and adjectives.

Wednesday: Work on CCF ch. 23-25 questions and check together. Write a sentence for each spelling word.

Thursday: Continue Questions & Answer flow.

Friday: Spelling test. Work on CCF ch. 28-30. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory must be finished today.

September 26-30: Science

Monday: Article about galaxies, etc. Independent research in computer lab.

Friday: Share with class 3 facts learned from Monday's research.

Math September 19-23

This week we will only have one "Drops in the Bucket" Homework. If there are problems on the paper that we have not covered and you do not understand, just make a note, and we will work on it in class. Homework will be given on Monday and will be due on Friday.






This week we will not be working in the textbook and continue to work on myltiplication. We are going to work on speed of basic facts 0-4 by taking speed tests. We will also be working on multiplying 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication problems.

History/Bible Sept. 19-23

Monday - Notebook Checks! Scroll down for the listing of what order your papers should be in.
History: We will have a brief discussion covering Clovis and what we read about him and the Franks this past Friday. Then we will read, discuss and complete the comprehension packet "The Coming of the Teutons to England". If this is not finished in class, we will allow time in class on Tuesday.
Bible: "Elijah taken to Heaven" reading cards and worksheet.

Tuesday
History: Based upon all of our readings about the invading barbarian tribes, we will be tracking their movements around Europe using a large map. This will be a group project together in class.
Bible: Read II Kings 2 from our bibles, then complete the "Elijah/Heaven" crossword

Wednesday
History: Viking Reports, each student will be allowed to pick 3 topics covering the Vikings in order to create a report.
Bible: Complete work on crosswords, review of "Elijah/Heaven" lesson

Thursday
History: Viking Research Day. In the classroom I will provide you with books to research your Viking reports.
Bible: No bible, our class time will be dedicated to History.

Friday
History: Viking Research Day. We will be going to the library to use the computers for research. You will need to bring whatever notes you have already taken in class from our book references in order to continue your progress.
Bible: You will be creating an obituary for Elijah based upon all the information you know about his ministry and time here on earth.

Ms. B's Historical Tid-Bit...

Did you know, historically Viking's did not wear helmets with horns in battle? Horned helmets were occasionally worn for ceremonial purposes. If you can come to class on Monday and tell me this, I will reward you 5 Extra Credit points on your next test.

Math September 12 - 16



We have been working on multiplication by playing games in centers. One of our centers involves practicing at www.multiplication.com. The games there are set up to help learn the multiplication tables.

Homework for the Week of September 12 - 16

Monday - Receive "Drops in the Bucket" #1 - Due Wednesday.

Wednesday - Receive "Drops in the Bucket" #2 - Due Friday.

Any work that is not completed in class will also be homework.

September 12-16: Latin II

Tuesday: You'll get your chapter 2 packets today. Make sure you use them to study the vocabulary words and chant on the first page (our next quiz will be next Tuesday). We'll continue learning about the person, number, and tense of verbs, as well as discuss English derivatives of some of chapter 2's vocabulary.

Thursday: Today we will practice translating verbs in a variety of persons and numbers. We will also drill chapter 2 vocabulary together. You will begin working on your chapter 2 worksheet, which is due next Tuesday.

September 12-16: Science and Literature/L.A.

Science

Monday: We will learn about the oxygen cycle and oxygen's place in the Earth's atmosphere through readings and a short video. You will also be turning in your sketches of the Earth and atmosphere's layers that you completed last week.

Friday: We will do an experiment that extracts the colors present in leaves due to photosynthesis.


Literature/L.A.

Monday: We will begin working on our new spelling list, as well as our chapters 9-13 packet for Charlie and the Chocolate factory (due Friday).

Tuesday: We will continue our synonym/antonym discussion from last week and review the 5 parts of a complete sentence.

Wednesday: We will check the questions for CCF chapters 9-11 and discuss the main characters.

Thursday: We will learn two new jingles and review the four different types of sentences. At the end of class we'll take an open-book test over the sentence types (you will get to use your reference sheets).

Friday: We will check the questions for CCF chapters 12-13 and then turn in the completed packet.

September 6-9: Latin II

We are off to a great start in Latin II! On Thursday we will take our first quiz over our chapter 1 packet. Everything you need to know we have discussed in class and can be found in the packet. Expect vocabulary words, the amo chant, and some simple grammar questions. Study the memory work on pg. 1 and re-read the grammar pages to prepare.

Don't forget to complete the chapter 1 worksheet for Thursday.

September 6-9: Literature/L.A.

This week in Language Arts we will be starting our study of grammar, which will begin with a review of the 5 parts of a complete sentence. We will also finish up our final copies of the letters to different candy companies and take a walk to the Post Office to send them off.

Our spelling test will take place on Friday.

In Literature we will focus on chapters 5-8 of Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

Greetings 4th graders! I hope you all had a relaxing 3 day weekend! This week in history and bible...

Monday: NO SCHOOL, WOOHOO!

Tuesday:
History - Read the "Background" packet covering the Barbarians, discuss together in class then complete the Background activities. You will be creating a map of Rome based upon the description in the reading, making a menu of a Roman Feast, also a schedule (day planner) of a Roman's daily activities. 

Wednesday:
History - Finish our work on the "Background" activities, these will be homework if not finished in class. Due Thursday morning.

Thursday:
History - Present our "Background" activities to the class.
Bible - Using our reading cards, we will read together the introduction to "Elijah Confronts Ahab" and complete the corresponding worksheet.

Friday: Name Origin papers due! I hope you worked on this with your parents. 
History- Read together the packet on "Alaric and the Visigoths", then complete the comprehension questions. These questions will be homework if not completed in class. 
Bible - Read together I Kings 21 from our Bibles, then complete "Proj. 1 - Bible Reading" worksheet
