We have been learning about Christian kings protecting Christendom and fighting off Muslims in the East and Danes in the west. The re-establishment of the Holy Roman Empire with the coronation of Charlemagne in the year 800 A.D. on Christmas Day and also Alfred the Great and his kingdom of Wessex (a.k.a. England). This week we will start our lesson on Otto I and the Holy Roman Empire.
Monday, we will have additonal reading about Alfred the Great:

In class we will read from our reading cards about Otto I and complete the worksheet that goes along with it.

We already studied a map about the territories Charlemagne gained during his reign, after his death and later the death of his son, Charlemagne's kingdom was divided between his three grandsons. We will be coloring a map, finding the Western Roman Empire and the Eastern Roman Empire, then labeling the 3 kingdoms of Lothair, Louis and Charles (the grandsons). The last step will be to outline the empire of Otto I to show ourselves the land Otto regained for the empire.

Thursday, we will be putting together an outline and study guide for our TEST on thursday over these 3 historical figures: Charlemagne, Alfred the Great and Otto I.
