This week will be short due to our Thanksgiving break, and I know that some of you may also be leaving early. Remember that Chapters 7 and 8 are due tomorrow. We will discuss them, and watch a video about the life of JRR Tolkien which will help you write your short biography of him for your book jacket. Your book jackets and bios of Tolkien will be DUE AT THE END OF CLASS THIS TUESDAY--or, if you are going out of town and need to work on them over the holidays, due the first thing on Monday morning, November 29.
You will NOT have a spelling test this week, but will have one on Friday, December 3. The words are below--scroll past the homework assignments.
The homework for the week after Thanksgiving is below, too. You have a chance to get this done early this week so that you can have the whole holiday to relax!
For MONDAY, November 29: read Chapters 9 and 10, Barrels Out of Bond and A Warm Welcome (pages 157-186) Discussion will be held over main points and characters. In class that Monday, you will be given a study guide for a quiz over chapters 1-10 on Wednesday. You will also be given special paper and instructions for completing your maps of Middle Earth. HOMEWORK: Read Chapter 11 On the Doorstep (pages 186-194 for Tuesday)
TUESDAY, November 30: Discussion over Chapter 11 of The Hobbit. You will work on maps of Middle Earth—MAP is due on Wednesday. HOMEWORK: Study for tomorrow’s quiz over The Hobbit, chapters 1-10.
WEDNESDAY, December 1: Quiz over Chapters 1-10. You should complete your maps of Middle Earth to turn in today. HOMEWORK: Read Chapter 12 Inside Information (pages 195-213) for Friday.
THURSDAY, December 2: You will work on their project pieces—personal choice for presentation. HOMEWORK: Finish reading Chapter 12 for discussion tomorrow; study for spelling test.
FRIDAY, December 3: Spelling test over words from The Hobbit. Discuss Chapter 12. Continue to work on Individualized Lesson Plan for book chapter report. HOMEWORK FOR MONDAY, December 6--Read Chapters 13 and 14--Not at Home and Fire and Water (pages 214-233.)
