Math October 10 - 14

This week will be a short week due to Parent Conferences and Field Trips. We will only have Math on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Our lessons this week focus on the multiplication table and word problems. We will also continue to work on subtracting numbers from large numbers with 0's.

Thursday - CAC Field Trip
History: Read aloud and translate the 23rd Psalm  (Latin Vulgate Psalm 22)
Bible: Complete any work on Obadiah Worksheet from Wednesday

Friday - Pumpkin Patch
History: Based upon a reading packet, discuss as a class, then write a paragraph describing why St. Jerome is always depicted in paintings with a skull and lion.

October 3-7: Latin II

Tuesday: Correct ch. 3 worksheet and review for ch. 3 quiz.

Thursday: Ch. 3 quiz: vocab, mensa chant, grammar (don't forget there will be review vocab from ch. 1-2).

October 3-7: Literature/Language Arts

Monday: Begin review sheet for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory test (due Wednesday).

Tuesday: Unit 1 Group B grammar test (open book).

Wednesday: CCF test review due.

Thursday: Correct Group B grammar test.

Friday: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory test.

October 3-7

Monday: Discuss "Moon" DVD seen on Friday. Read lesson 4.5 and answer questions.

Wednesday: Begin research for Ptolemy vs. Copernicus paragraph.

Friday: Continue working on Ptolemy vs. Copernicus paragraph (due Fri., Oct. 14).

Math Class October 3 - 7

Last week's math classes worked really well separating the fourth graders into two groups and teaching guided math lessons. While some students were having a math lesson, remaining students were in groups of Individual Book Work, a center activity, or a problem solving enrichment activity. It worked out well, so we are going to try it again this week. I think our favorite activity for last week was playing "Baby Snake" which is a game of mentally adding and taking risks. Ask your child how to play and play a game at home.

This week our lessons will include:

Problem Solving Strategies: working backwards, using logical reasoning and drawing a diagram or making a table

Lesson: Multiplication as repeaded addition, subtracting dollars and cents, and missing numbers in subtraction.

Multiplication Facts: We will concentrate on 3's.
